APAA now has been granted ANBI status by the Dutch government.

This allows Dutch citizens who donate to APAA to use their receipts for tax-deductible purposes in the Netherlands. We thank our Dutch friends for their support.

Mission: APAA's mission is to rescue, care for and seek homes for stray dogs and cats on the islands of Aeginaand Agistri and keep the stray animal population under control via spay and neuter programs.

Policy: Our policy objective is to improve standards of welfare for kept animals, reduce abandonment by promoting responsible pet ownership and increase awareness on animal welfare issues.

Our policy plan is the following:

  • Maintain a no-kill shelter to take in stray dogs

  • give them proper medical treatment and decent housing (large pens where 2-3 dogs

    can live together)

  • feed them raw meat and biscuits for optimum health

  • give each dog time in the large free-run areas, as well as training to increase their

    suitability for adoption.

  • Help dogs and cats on the street whenever possible (spay/neuter – feeding stations)

    to keep them healthy

  • Increae awareness and engage local citizens through forstering programs, neutering

    programs, adoption programs, shelter open days and fund raising events, communicated through social media, personal contacts andour info center.charity shop in Aegina town

  • provide guidance to the Municipality to develop action plans to promote responsible pet ownership (i.e. Subsidize microchipping and neutering of owned pets)

  • Encourage the police to prosecute animal abuse and neglect.

    Board: By the end of 2022 APAA's Board consists of five members. They are Irene Molfessi – President; Katerina Athanasiou – Vice-president; Elizabeth Koubena – Secretary; Karin Adrio-Appel – Treasurer and Maria Christina Kalogera – Member. Alternate members are Manuela Tillack-Luebke, Julie Oldroyd and Danae Seeman.

    Remuneration Policy: APAA's remuneration policy is based on the recognition and reward of each individual’s contribution to the organization. Board members are only reimbursed for out of pocket expenses.
